The Participatory Budgeting Unit is holding a one-day conference on 9 November 2010, Westminster Central Hall exploring how PB can be taken forward in the new political and economic climate. Topics covered will include how PB enhances commissioning co-production and Total Place.
Residents of Eastfield near Scarborough, voted for £32,500 worth of projects addressing crime and community safety issues. As well as local people voting for projects on 'Decision Day' in June 09, residents played a key role in the design and delivery of the process.
In February and March of 2009, 24 separate participatory budgeting pilots were held on the theme of community safety, all partly or fully funded by a Home Office scheme. The pilots were scattered across England and Wales from Thanet in Kent to Newcastle and Northumberland, and even one in Cardiff.
Venue: The Source, Sheffield
Participatory Budgeting, where residents vote directly on spending decisions in their local areas, is becoming increasingly well established, with over 70 pilot initiatives nationally.
The day is for people either already engaged in delivering PB in the Yorkshire/Humber Region, or who are interested in developing PB initiatives, can meet, network, and share best practice.
