Residents of Eastfield near Scarborough, voted for £32,500 worth of projects addressing crime and community safety issues. As well as local people voting for projects on 'Decision Day' in June 09, residents played a key role in the design and delivery of the process.

In February and March of 2009, 24 separate participatory budgeting pilots were held on the theme of community safety, all partly or fully funded by a Home Office scheme. The pilots were scattered across England and Wales from Thanet in Kent to Newcastle and Northumberland, and even one in Cardiff.
