South Yorkshire Police is the thirteenth largest of the 44 police forces within England, Wales and Northern Ireland, policing Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield , and covering 600 square miles.
The force is headed by Chief Constable Meredydd Hughes who leads over 3,160 police officers and over 2,500 police staff, supported by 245 special constables and more than 350 police community support officers (PCSOs).
Our mission is to deliver the best possible service to the public by taking personal responsibility, exercising effective leadership, and by inspiring confidence through the quality of our policing.
Engaging with, and listening to, communities about what matters to people locally is what drives our service delivery. Working with public and private sector partners and voluntary and community groups, we are committed to providing opportunities for people to influence and shape services in their area, to build safe, healthy and thriving neighbourhoods.
The downpour of rain that descended on South Yorkshire on Sunday 29 November 2009 was not enough to dampen the spirits of everyone attending the annual Lifestyle Volunteers Prize Giving Ceremony.
