Communities Conference Report - June 2009
Members of the Community Panel organised a very successful conference in June 2009 aimed at members of communities across the region. Entitled 'Communities - Recession, Resilience, Responses'
it focused on how communities were dealing with current economic pressures and their responses to local and central government and other agencies.
Migration Workers in rural areas - 7 years on
Report from a seminar bringing together people working with migrant workers -seven years after workers from the new EU countries were allowed to come and work in the UK. As the Workers Registration Scheme ends, how had things improved - or remained difficult - for them and for the communities in which they have settled

Adding Value - Community Development Contributions to NI4
A report of an event held in Doncaster organised by the YHCDN which aimed to do two things:
• raise the profile of the skills of community development workers, and
• make the ‘business case’ for community development.

Empowering rural communities - March 11th 2008
The aim of the event was to ensure that a rural perspective is included in the work of the National Empowerment Consortium in Yorkshire and the Humber. The workshop was organised by the regional community development network and attended by 26 people. Session topics included Parish Planning, Assets Transfer, Transition towns, Techniques for Involvement. Over lunch people shared stories about community empowerment.
Equalities for all 2008
The new Equality and Human Rights Network in the region was launched at this event in Leeds. Over 50 delegates from the voluntary and community sectors attended as well as regional stakeholders such as the Equality and Human Rights Commission and Regional Assembly. The day's focus was on celebrating VCS expertise in equality and human rights and encouraging partners to sign up to shared principles of working.
What works and what needs to happen - March 31st 2008
A regional event for people working with refugees, asylum seekers and migrant workers. Over 100 people attended this workshop organised by Take Part in Yorkshire and the Humber, to discuss 'what works' and hear from migrant communities about needs and issues. Topics included work with Roma migrants and communities, and a discussion led by a focus group in Doncaster on their outreach and development practice.

Meeting with the audit commission
A meeting on 14th May 2008 in Doncaster with the Audit Commission looked at the Duty to involve and the CAA process. A wide range of questions, proposals and suggestions were put to the Audit Commission staff attending and small groups their responses.
